Why is The Quran The Greatest Miracle?

God sent our Prophet Muhammad, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, with the message to guide all people, and because every prophet should have a miracle that would be a support for him and a strong proof before his people, God supported our Noble Prophet with the Holy Quran which is a miracle laden with miracles.

The Noble Quran came in the form of verses that carry within its miracles and stories, which the more we delved into them and deepened, we realized to what extent they are different

What are the Quran miracles?

What is the Meaning and Characteristics of the Miracles of the Quran? 

There are some important characteristics the miracle described by like

1. Recent event

To be a new event inherent in the present and not in the past.

2. Unusual thing or matter

That is, to be something out of the ordinary. Extinguishing fire with water is not a miracle, but not being extinguished is a miracle.

3. The Miracle took place at the time of commissioning

That it occurs during the time of the assignment, that is, before the resurrection in the life for which people will be held accountable, and the pens have not yet dried up, because at that time we are outside the framework of the time of assignment.

4. Associated with a call to religion as a proof:

If she comes along with the invitation, the Prophet used to call the people and then show them the miracle, not the other way around

So these are all conditions that give the verb a miraculous character.

As we mentioned above, the Holy Quran is a miracle in itself and it included many other miracles. Now let’s talk about the Holy Quran first and then move on to know what miracles it contained.

What are the types of miracles?

Reagarding the types of miracles, the miracles that the Noble Quran told us about, and with which God sent the Messengers, are divided into two parts:

Tangible and intangible miracles

It means the extent to which the miracle can be seen with the eye or not. It is divided into:

The tangible miracles

It means the miracles that we can see clearly, and they are often temporary miracles because they descend upon the people with the da’wah, so they see it in order to be instant proof of the truth of this message, then it goes away with the Messenger’s departure and death.

The linguistic miracles of Quran

Quran includes many types of Quran miracles, let’s know it together …

1. Pronunciation and melody

Where the word is placed in a specific place during the verse or phrase, and if its position is changed forward or backward, or it is omitted, the melody and pronunciation are disturbed.

This is evident in the Almighty saying:

أفَرَأَيْتُمُ اللَّاتَ وَالْعُزَّى (19) وَمَنَاةَ الثَّالِثَةَ الْأُخْرَى (20)

Have you seen Al-Lat and Al-Uzza and Manat, the other third

2. Quranic composition

As there is consistency between the phrase and its intended meaning, just as there is consistency between the words in one sentence and the letters in one word.

3. Unique Quranic style

Where the Holy Quran is distinguished by its flexibility and compliance with interpretation, and the flexibility of the Quran is distinguished by the impossibility of a contradiction in it

Therefore, there is no style that can match the style of the Holy Quran.

It also includes encouragement, intimidation, and striking beauty in its expressions, which bridges the gap in the spirit of the simple and its deep interior that satisfies the philosophers’ appetite for more wisdom and thinking.

” إِنَّ رَبَّكَ سَرِيعُ الْعِقَابِ وَإِنَّهُ لَغَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ” الأنعام 165

“Indeed, your Lord is swift in punishment, and He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”

4. The consistency of the Quranic system

It means choosing words and letters, moving between them, and placing them in a specific context that serves to guide the meanings in the clearest terms in the best context and the most beautiful composition.

Allah Almighty said: 

وَلَئِن مَّسَّتْهُمْ نَفْحَةٌ مِّنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّكَ لَيَقُولُنَّ يَٰوَيْلَنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَٰلِمِينَ

(الأنبياء – 46)

And if a whiff of your Lord’s punishment touches them, they will say, “Woe to us! Indeed, we were unjust .”

The use of the word “whiff”, for example, to denote that it is just a speck of torment illustrated the extent of human weakness

5. I’jaz ul Qasr (Limitation of summarization and synopsizing)

Which mean to contain wonderful meanings, eloquence and wonderful rhetoric in few limited words.

For Example:

Surat al-Kawthar, which is also the shortest chapter of the Quran but it contains wonderful meaning!

What are the Numerical miracles of the Quran?

The Holy Quran includes a fascination called numerical miracles.

These miracles include:

1. Divine balance of numbers

It means that the number of word repetitions in the Quran is related to what it actually expresses, like:

1. The word “prayer” occurs five times in the Quran, and the number of daily prayers obligatory for every Muslim is five.
2. The word “month” appears 12 times in the Quran, and as we know, the number of months in a year is 12 months
3. The word “days is mentioned 30 times in the Quran, just like the number of days in a month.

2. The exact number of the word and its opposite mentioned in the Quran

It means that the number of passages of repetition of the word and the number of repetitions of its antithesis are equal

For Example:

1. live 145 times and death 145 times
2. Angels 88 times and Devils 88 times
3. life 115 times and Hereafter 115 times

What are the historical miracles of Quran?

One of the miracles of the Quran is that it talked about civilizations that no one knew about at the time of its revelation.

These civilizations were discovered recently and completely match the description given in the Quran.

For example:

1. “Thamud” civilization

God Almighty told the story of the Thamud civilization, which was characterized by the carving of houses in the mountains, while this phenomenon was rare in the Arabian Peninsula, and after the passage of thousands of years, buildings dating back to this period were discovered. Indeed, the houses were carved in the mountains, as described in the Quran completely.

2. The story of Prophet Musa 

The story of Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) and the historical events it included, which God told us in His Noble Book

We find that the Quran described the kings of Egypt in this period with the term “Pharaohs”, a title that was already used as a title for kings in ancient Egypt, and they considered themselves gods.

3. Musa’s mountain 

The Quran acknowledged that Mount Musa is located on the Sinai Peninsula, and after thousands of years, scholars have shown that it is indeed located on the Arab shore of the Red Sea.

4. The name “Haman”

The name “Haman” was unknown until the decipherment of Egyptian hieroglyphs in the nineteenth century.

When the hieroglyphs were deciphered, it was made clear that Haman was a close aide to the pharaoh on the “Quarry Head”

But the interesting thing is that Haman is mentioned in the Quran as the person who managed the construction work under the leadership of the pharaoh hundreds of years before this was discovered.

What are the Scientific Miracles of the Quran?

There are many scientific miracles in the Quran. We mentioned a glimpse of many scientific facts mentioned in the Quran. The Quran is not a science book, though no science contradicts the facts mentioned in the Quran. 

The Quran tackled a lot of facts in various fields such as oceans, human creation and geology in a detailed way that no human knew fourteen centuries ago. In fact, Islam supports science not rejects it. Moreover, Islam urges its followers to learn and study in order to be closer to Allah.

Why is The Qur’an The Greatest Miracle?

The reality is if you say anything today out of memory, not written, and you try to repeat it again next day you will never be able to repeat it the same exact way. Especially if you have no reference or nothing written to go back to.

I remember in our very first class of Mass Communication at the university, they taught us a crucial message through a little game. The game was that the professor called the first student in class and said something in her ears.

Then, he asked her to say it to the person next to her. Repeatedly, the person next to her would say it to the person next to her and so on until the last person in the class. By the time, the message reached the last person. Finally, he was asked to repeat it before the whole class. Surprisingly, we all laughed when he did because the message got quite distorted. So, we learned that a message can’t simply be repeated or transmitted from memory without being changed. 

Do you know that prophet Muhammad recited the same exact message impeccably from memory for 23 years (TWENTY THREE YEARS!)

How can a man who doesn’t know how to read or write and doesn’t have a written reference recite the same message steadily, sharply and articulately for 23 years from memory without changing a word? 

Allah Almighty said,

Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur’an and indeed, We will be its guardian.”

[Qur’an 15: 9]

The Quran Also States:

Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. It is not but a revelation revealed,”

[Qur’an  53: 2-4]

That’s one aspects of how The Qur’an is the greatest miracle.

Momentary Vs. everlasting miracle

There is a momentary miracle that happens before a group of people and benefits them solely or exclusively. For example, parting the sea for the Children of Israel was a miracle for them. Actually, this won’t necessarily benefit you today directly or personally.

But there is, however, a miracle that gets divinely preserved from the minute it was revealed until the end of time, thus acts as a renewable source of guidance, healing, satisfaction, awe and inspiration to all people at all times!

That’s truly the greatest miracle! This is how men and women from different walks of life, ethnicities, cultures, backgrounds find personal peace, guidance, healing, light, and purpose through the Qur’an, whenever they sincerely reach out to it. Amazingly, this remains with them and grows with them throughout their life journey! It never seizes to teach them. Moreover, they never seize to find what they need in it.

Allah Almighty said,

Say, ‘If the sea were ink for [writing] the words of my Lord, the sea would be exhausted before the words of my Lord were exhausted, even if We brought the like of it as a supplement.’

[Qur’an 18:109]

Qur’an is the greatest miracle! Explore it and delve in its meanings. Only then, You will truly realize the magnitude of this gift that has been descended upon us! A revelation from the Creator to all mankind.

The Miracles of the Previous Prophet?

Dear reader, you may now be wondering, why a book?

While the miracles of all the prophets were in the form of supernatural things visible to people, why did God send our Prophet Muhammad only with a book?

This is a good question. Let us move our thinking to some of the miracles of the prophets who preceded our Prophet Muhammad, to talk about our Prophet Mosa, for example, who came down at a time when magic spread, so God supported him with miracles that eliminate the deception of the greatest magician. As for Noah, God sent him among a people living in the desert and made his miracle a great ship sailing among Water Mountains!

What we notice here is that the miracle of every messenger is consistent with the conditions of his time and common among his people. And if you look at the people of our Prophet Muhammad, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, they are a people of great eloquence and fluency, so God defeated them with the Quran in its brevity and miraculousness, what the eloquent people were unable to do and the poets were shocked by it that most eloquent people could not come up with a single verse that is similar to it.

Therefore, the Quran was and still is a turning point and a miracle in the history of humanity that no individual, no matter how intelligent and eloquent he may be, can match it, for it is the word of God!

And this miracle has a special feature that confirms that it is the greatest miracle of all, not to mention that it is an eternal miracle that is not temporary, but is also preserved with God.

Allah Almighty said,

“Indeed, it is We who sent down the Quran and indeed, We will be its guardian.”
