Previous nations
We all know that Moses came with more than a miracle, one of them was the division of the sea for the children of Israel. The same goes for Jesus some of his miracles were a table laden with food, healing the blind and the leper and resurrection of the dead, all by the permission of God. What shall jump in one’s mind is the obvious question “What were Muhammad’s Miracles?”
Before answering this question I shall mention a verse from Quran first that may seem unrelated a little bit:
This is the Book (the Qur’an), whereof there is no doubt, a guidance to those who are Al-Muttaqun [the pious and righteous persons who fear Allah much (abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds which He has forbidden) and love Allah much (perform all kinds of good deeds which He has ordained].” [Quran.com/2/2]
At the very beginning of Chapter 2 in Qura’an (Al-Baqra), verse 2 the word “Muttaquan“ which simply resembles in English for the righteous. Remember this! We will get back to it shortly.
From the previous nations when Moses has proven by so many ways the existence of Allah (The Creator of heavens and earth), and children of Israel kept arguing him all the time Allah has punished and shown them several ways of torture due to the disbelief after so many miracles, like mentioned in Qura’an as following:
“And remember We appointed forty nights for Moses, and in his absence ye took the calf (for worship), and ye did grievous wrong.” [Quran.com/2/51].
“And remember ye said: “O Moses! We shall never believe in thee until we see Allah manifestly,” but ye were dazed with thunder and lightning even as ye looked on.” [Quran.com/2/55].
“And remember We said: “Enter this town, and eat of the plenty therein as ye wish; but enter the gate with humility, in posture and in words, and We shall forgive you your faults and increase (the portion of) those who do good.” [Quran.com/2/58]. But the transgressors changed the word from that which had been given them; so We sent on the transgressors a plague from heaven, for that they infringed (Our command) repeatedly”. [Quran.com/2/59]
So, it is Allah’s law in nations, if He sends a tangible miracle that proven His existence, His strength and His power, and then people turned their backs and did not believe, he shall show them several ways of torture and punishment that are unbearable at all.
There was no miracle!
Prophet Muhammad did not know how to read nor how to write; He (PBUH) managed to recite the Holy Quran without a single mistake. This might be one of the miracles, but the main miracle was the Quran itself .
It was reported by Ibn `Abbas who said: “The people of Makkah asked the Prophet to turn As-Safa’ into gold for them, and to remove the mountains (from around Makkah) so that they could cultivate the land.
– It was said to him (by Allah): “If you wish, I will be patient and give them more time, or if you wish, I will do what they are asking, but if they then disbelieve, they will be destroyed as the nations before them were destroyed.”
– He said, “No, be patient and give them more time.”
To explain more, when people of Muhammad (PBUH) asked him to show them some miracles like the previous nations, they asked him to turn a known mountain there into gold, when the prophet (PBUH) asked Allah to turn the mountain into gold for them. Allah said if he do what they said and they still do not believe, the punishment shall come down upon them! And Allah revealed in Quran:
And nothing has prevented Us from sending signs except that the former peoples denied them. And We gave Thamud the she-camel as a visible sign, but they wronged her. And We send not the signs except as a warning.” [Quran.com17/59]
The Miracle
Then what was the miracle of Muhammad (PBUH)? The miracle is in the Quran itself and it is only unfolded for the righteous, remember what we mentioned above about Al Muttaquan, those who searche for the right, those who keep their eyes on the road to avoid any harms, those who do good deeds rather than bad ones, those who care about justice, peace, fairness etc…
Those are the Muttaquan – the righteous- and this word was mentioned in the second page in Quran while revealing who can be guided through Quran and the answer was the Muttaquan, remember Allah did not say the Muslims, Jews nor the Christians! However Allah (SWT) used the word Muttaquan instead, to assure that anyone who seeks the truth shall be guided by the Quran for sure, and that is the beauty and miraculous thing about Quran. Remember that Quran can show you marvelous miracles, only if you showed Allah your eagerness and passion for learning and reading Quran, it is a magic book that gives its secrets for those specific people who know how special this book is! Just do good and seek the right path and then read Quran, and discover the miracles by yourself. This book just needs some effort to reveal its beauty.
