Islam, Christianity and Judaism; Divine Codes
We all know that Islam, Christianity, and Judaism are divine codes.
The Bible and the Gospels represent both the Old and New Testaments.
The following paragraph is part of an article included among a series of articles posted on the history of the Bible published on Wikipedia:
“Almost all scholars of antiquity agree that Jesus existed, but scholars differ on the historicity of specific episodes described in the Biblical accounts of Jesus, and the only two events subject to ‘almost universal assent’ are that Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist and was crucified by the order of the Roman Prefect Pontius Pilate. Elements whose historical authenticity is disputed include the two accounts of the Nativity of Jesus, the miraculous events including the resurrection, and certain details about the crucifixion.” [1]
Different Bibles? How come?!
To begin with, the question that bounced up in my mind, why would there be any difference in the history of the Bible or even if small details on Jesus?!
I tried to find an answer, but I was in confusion when I knew in the same article that there are four versions of the Gospel, each one is different from the other.
“According to the majority viewpoint, the gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke, collectively referred to as the Synoptic Gospels, are the primary sources of historical information about Jesus and of the religious movement he founded.The fourth gospel, the Gospel of John, differs greatly from the first three gospels.” [2]
This paragraph indicates that the first three bibles have slight variances while the fourth is of a huge difference from them.
The existence of differences necessitates the difference of the authors. But wasn’t the Bible from God?? Why on earth should it be different? And why were there four versions??
I found the answer on a Biblical website, It stated:
“The Bible was written over a span of 1500 years, by 40 writers. Unlike other religious writings, the Bible reads as a factual news account of real events, places, people, and dialogue. Historians and archaeologists have repeatedly confirmed its authenticity.
Using the writers’ own writing styles and personalities, God shows us who he is and what it’s like to know him.“ [3]
Forty writers? Ain’t too much?
This is very outrageous; why would a Divine scripture be written by forty writers? And how come God allowed that each one of them would write using his own style and personality?
Moreover, after deep thinking I got to recognize that due to the abundant number of writers, each writing according to his own style and personality, then variances naturally are to emerge and different versions of the Bible are to be compiled.
What is the Qur’an?
Looking on the other hand, there is another Divine scripture that belongs to Islam called the “Qur’an”. It is the scripture God revealed to Prophet Muhammad through Jibriel (Gabriel). This holy book is a code of conduct, a guide to everything a Muslim would need to lead his life on this earth spiritually and materialistically.
Qur’an was first written in Al-Lawh Al- Mahfuzh “preserved book” in Heaven.
God says,
Indeed, it is a noble Qur’an. In a Register well-protected; None touch it except the purified، [It is] a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.” [56: 77-80] (4)
So we got to know that:
- God revealed it.
- It exists in a well-protected Register in Heaven.
To sum up, God sent down Qur’an upon Muhammed via Jibriel and he (Muhammad) memorized it by heart.
Who wrote it?
According to the most correct opinion of scholars, God ordered the pen to write. Also, the Qur’an was written in a preserved register as previously clarified. Then it was revealed to Prophet Muhammad via Jibriel for approximately twenty-three years, as it was not revealed to him all at once, rather scattered, and this denoted great wisdom, for if it were wholly revealed at one time, people would not have been able to abide by and act upon it.
The legislations inside the Qur’an were not imposed as a whole sum but gradually.
Since the believers were tenderfoot in Islam, they wouldn’t have accepted the tremendous change in their lives caused by this revelation.
In short, this necessitated the graduation in imposing prescriptions and prohibitions.
Qur’an vs. Bible
Having a profound look into the differences between the Qur’an and the Bible; you’ll find some significant results:
First, the Qur’an was dictated literally by God while the Bible was written using the writers’ styles and personalities.
Second, the Qur’an is only one version while the Bible is four versions.
Third, the Qur’an has been preserved from alteration since it was revealed up to date while the Bible contains many changes and variations according to each version.
