The Quran is an oral revelation which was divinely preserved through human writing and memorization. It was revealed and written over twenty-three (23) years during the Prophetic era (610-632 A.D.).

We need to depend on authentic religious texts and manuscripts to answer the question of how long after Jesus the Quran was written.

How Long After Jesus Was the Quran Written?

The Quran, the Speech of Allah, was written nearly 610 years after the Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him). It was sent to the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) via the angel Gabriel in Arabic on the tenth of August in the year 610 A.D. This was during the month of Ramadan when the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) was nearly 40 years old.

“Indeed, ˹it is˺ We ˹Who˺ sent this ˹Quran˺ down on the Night of Glory.”

[The Noble Quran, 97:1]

Unlike the Bible, it is a Book which is 100 % authorized by God. The Quran is the original copy of the divine oral revelation with no human element, omission or fabrication. Ask yourself: how many versions of the Quran?!

Stages of Preserving the Quran

The Quran was not composed by the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), as he was illiterate. It was divinely revealed for twenty-three (23) years during the seventh century.

“It is certainly We Who have revealed the Reminder (the Quran), and it is certainly We Who will preserve it.”

[The Noble Quran, 15: 9]

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) ordered his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them all) to write down the Quran.  Allah Almighty has preserved this Book from fabrication and helps us to memorize its Ayahs. To understand how the Quran turns from an oral revelation to a written copy, we should know about the three stages of its preservation.

1. Stage of Recording

The Quran was written at the time of Its revelation during the Prophetic era. First, its Ayahs was scattered, as it was written on the barks of of date palms, stones and leather.

2. Stage of Collecting

Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), after the death of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) ordered the companions to collect the written Quranic Ayahs in the barks of date palms, stones and leather. His aim is to compose a book composed of all Quranic Ayahs after the death of about 400 among the memorizers of the Quran.

3. Stage of Completion

‘Uthman ibn ‘Affan (may Allah be pleased with him), twenty years after the death of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), requested the manuscripts of the Quran could order it to be compiled into one standardised copy.

Conclusion

The Quran was written nearly 610 years after Jesus. The Quran is the original copy of the divine oral revelation with no human element, omission or fabrication. Its written copy carries the Word of God sent to the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) over twenty-three years during the seventh century (609-632 A.D.).
