Does the Quran Say Jesus Will Judge

Does the Quran Say Jesus Will Judge?

Muslims believe Jesus will return to judge the world, according to the Quran and Sunnah. He will not

Jesus (‘Isa in Arabic) will judge the world according to the revelation (Quran and Sunnah). Yet, we need to know what judgment he will be assigned for. Muslims believe that Jesus (peace be upon him) did not die for our sins but was saved from the Jews and raised by Allah to Himself.

Among the signs of the coming of the Hereafter as Muslims believe is that Jesus will return on earth to judge the world. Here we will know does the Quran say Jesus will judge? We will also mention Jesus will judge the world Quran verse.

Does the Quran Say Jesus Will Judge?

The awaited second coming of Jesus is not explicitly mentioned in the Quran but clearly explained in the Sunnah, as the Sunnah is the explainer of the Quran.

1. Evidence from the Quran that Jesus will judge

“Every one of the People of the Book will definitely believe in him before his death. And on the Day of Judgment Jesus will be a witness against them.”

[The Noble Quran, 4: 159]

This proves Jesus’ second coming. He will come to follow the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), the seal of all the Prophets, and not negate his message or bring new legislation. After his second coming, the disbelievers will believe that Jesus (Peace be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah Almighty and not god.

“And his ˹second˺ coming is truly a sign for the Hour. So have no doubt about it, and follow me. This is the Straight Path.”

[The Noble Quran, 43: 63]

2. Evidence from the Sunnah that Jesus will judge

The Sunnah mentions this fact explicitly through many Hadiths. It shows the role of the Prophet Jesus after his second coming and the place of his descent. Some Hadiths also show that one of the signs of the Hour is Jesus’ descent.

a. A Hadith showing the role of Jesus after his second coming:

“The Hour will not begin until ‘Isa bin Maryam comes down as a just judge and a just ruler. He will break the cross, kill the pigs and abolish the Jizyah (a tax taken from the non-Muslims, who are in the protection of the Muslim government), and wealth will become so abundant that no one will accept it.”

[Sunan ibn Majah]

2. A Hadith showing the place of the descent of Jesus:

“…Then Jesus son of Mary will descend at the white minaret to the east of Damascus. He will then catch him up at the gate of Ludd and kill him.”

[Sahih Muslim]

3. A Hadith showing that one of the signs of the Hour is the descent of Jesus

“It will not come until you see ten signs before and (in this connection) he made a mention of the smoke, Dajjal, the beast, the rising of the sun from the west, the descent of Jesus son of Mary (Allah be pleased with him), the Gog and Magog, and land-slides in three places, one in the east, one in the west and one in Arabia at the end of which fire would burn forth from the Yemen, and would drive people to the place of their assembly.”

[Sahih Muslim]

The Quran says Jesus will judge

Jesus (Peace be upon him) is a ruler and not the final judge.

“All authority on that Day (the Day of Judgment) is for Allah ˹alone˺…“

[The Noble Quran, 22:56]

Jesus (Peace be upon him) will descend on earth to implement the Islamic Rulings following the Prophet Muhammad(ﷺ). He will fight against the present Christians. This is the meaning of his judgement.

Conclusion

The Quran implicitly mentions that the Prophet Jesus will judge, and we understand, from the Sunnah, his role as a judge. Through the Quran and Sunnah, we can answer so many questions.
