Why Women Cannot Marry Four Men? V2

Why can Muslim men marry four women? Why can’t Muslim women marry four men? Interesting question aren’t it?

Interesting question isn’t it? Well, to answer this we’ll go over several steps:

  1. Why can Muslim men marry four women?
  2. Why can’t Muslim women marry four men?
  3. Based on recent medical knowledge, why women and even men should not have multiple sex partners out of wedlock?

Let’s begin,

First: Muslim men can marry four women according to Islamic Shar’iah.

Islam being the final Devine Revelation has to be applicable in every time and place till Judgment Day. Fourteen hundred years ago men in the community of the beginning of revelation could have any number of wives as they please. So it was more of a limitation than a privilege. Also, Islam gave parameters for the responsibilities, duties and the rights of each spouse. This resulted in a very civilized relationship between husband and wife in Islam.

A man with more than one wife must treat them fairly and equally in all aspects of life as possible as he can. For example, time and money he spends on each of them.  Quran in one verse states that men will not be able to be completely fair and advices of one wife to avoid unjustness.

And if you fear that you shall not be able to deal justly with the orphan-girls, then marry (other) women of your choice, two or three, or four but if you fear that you shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one or (the captives and the slaves) that your right hands possess. That is nearer to prevent you from doing injustice.” (1)

Presently, it is not a common practice in Islamic communities for a lot of reasons. For example, fear of being unjust, realizing the wisdom behind this restriction and the desire of men nowadays to provide proper care for their wives and children.

Fruit for thought:

Nowadays, western societies practice polygamy without actually calling it so. A man may be having one wife but in secret would be unfaithful having one affair or more; so in practice he is a polygamist.

Second: Why can’t Muslim women marry four men?

Islam honors women and has the perfect legislations to protect them.  This is why Islam defends and most importantly preserves women’s honor. It is a matter of Pride, Piety. Not only this but also maintaining clear pure lineage of children, keeping proper kinship and, having natural healthy family life for the upbringing of new generations.

Again; fruit for thought:

Modern societies all over the world strive under the weight of moral corruption.  It  can hardly survive the consequences of their unnatural choices. Promiscuity of women as well as men has led to so many problems that those societies are struggling with now and will struggle with in the future.

Finally: Why based on recent medical knowledge women and even men have should not have multiple sex partners?

We have to admit that vice and sin are present everywhere all time. And there are sick psychotics committing bad deeds in the name of personal freedom all the time everywhere.

Despite the presence of the ultimate truth; “The Last Book of Devine Guidance” sent by God to man that is “Quran”, most people refuse to accept the truth or to believe.

Allah says in Quran:

And indeed We have fully explained to mankind, in this Quran, every kind of similitude, but most mankind refuse (the truth and accept nothing) but disbelief.” (2)

As our time is dominated by the over whelming influence of science. Here are some scientific facts that show the new found statistical correlation between promiscuity, spread of STDs and some cancers based onEvidence-based medicine’ during the third quarter of the last century:

  • HIV virus appeared and spread after the flair of promiscuous practices in the sixties of the last century along with several other diseases that were not seen amongst people before.

The Messenger of God (PBUH) said:

“Immorality never appears among a people to such an extent that they commit it openly, but plagues and diseases that were never known among their predecessors will spread among them.” (3)

Being promiscuous and having STDs both increase one’s likeliness and susceptibility of infection by the AIDS virus.  Despite better education and treatment, AIDS has killed more than 14,000 Americans in 2007.

  • STDs: The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 19 million new STD infections occur each year.  Among the most common STDs are chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis, but the most common of all is the human papillomavirus (HPV).  HPV can infect the mouth or the genitals. Most people do not know they are they have such infections. HPV has been linked to cervical cancer and to oral and throat cancers.

Venereal diseases are multiplying in incidence numbers and speed of spread.  Genital malignancies especially cancer cervix in women is directly related to women having AIDS and multiple sexual partners.

  • New types of malignancies that were not seen or rarely seen before are now diagnosed daily e.g.   Laryngeal cancers, oral and rectal cancers etc.

To conclude,

Clean, pure and pious living cannot be realized by human endeavor alone.  Since humans do not have the ultimate knowledge that ensures their own welfare. It is Allah alone who fulfill Our  need for Devine guidance and wisdom to achieve this goal through his Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in the form of Islam.
