When Adam did not abide by Allah’s prohibition, Allah punished him and brought him out of the Garden. Adam was not the only one who came out of the Garden, Allah also brought Eve and Satan out.
The place where Adam and his companions landed is a matter of inquiry for many readers. So, in this article, we will review this subject, providing answers to the arising questions. Stay with us. Go no further.
Why Adam and Eve Let down to Earth
We can sum up the reasons in the following short points: –
1. The Prohibited Tree
“We said, “O Adam, inhabit the Garden, you and your spouse, and eat from it freely as you please, but do not approach this tree, lest you become wrongdoers.”
The reason Adam and Eve descended to Earth was that Allah ordered them not to go near or eat from a certain tree in heaven; it was said it was the wheat tree, or vineyards. Allah told them if they did not obey Him, they would be sinners.
2. Satan’s Jealousy
We can quickly point out that the purpose of creating Adam is to make him Allah’s successor on Earth. This is an aspect of Allah’s tribute to Adam and his descendants.
This is why Satan felt jealous because of the status of dignity and honor Allah granted Adam. So, he declared rebellion and disobedience to Allah.
3. Satan’s Temptation
“But Satan whispered to them, to reveal to them their nakedness, which was invisible to them. He said, “Your Lord has only forbidden you this tree, lest you become angels or become immortals.”
“فَوَسْوَسَ لَهُمَا الشَّيْطَانُ لِيُبْدِيَ لَهُمَا مَا وُورِيَ عَنْهُمَا مِنْ سَوْآتِهِمَا وَقَالَ مَا نَهَاكُمَا رَبُّكُمَا عَنْ هَٰذِهِ الشَّجَرَةِ إِلَّا أَنْ تَكُونَا مَلَكَيْنِ أَوْ تَكُونَا مِنَ الْخَالِدِينَ.”
Satan, then seduced Adam and Eve. He swore that he was their honest counselor. He told them that he wanted nothing for them except goodness. He convinced them that if they ate from the tree, they might be angels or they would have eternal residence in paradise.
In this way, he tempted them. And so Satan, who refused to bow down to Allah, caused them to disobey Allah and be sinners like him.
Where did Adam and Eve land?
We do not know where Adam and Eve specifically landed on Earth. The Holy Quran did not mention the location of their landing. The Quranic texts only stated that Allah, the Almighty, brought them down from heaven to Earth.
But there are some sayings and speculations about this matter. Here they are:
1. Adam Landed in India
Some scholars have said that Adam, peace be upon him, descended in Sarandip Valley of India, on a big mountain called Noz.
It was said that Ali ibn Abi Talib said, “The best Valleys are two, the valley of Makkah and a valley in India in which Adam let dawn.
Some Islamic scholars said that the saying of Adam (peace be upon him) being let down in India is not true. It is stated by the Israelites which are not valid.
2. Eve Landed in Jeddah
As to the landing location of Eve, it was said that she descended in Jeddah, a place next to Mecca. Each of them kept seeking his companion until they met each other on Mount Arafat on the day of Arafah. They recognized each other so the day was called Arafah which means “Recognition”, and the whole place was named Arafat.
It was said that Adam’s descent was a matter of repentance from Allah, and Eve’s descent was a matter of mercy from Allah. The decent time was at the end of the afternoon.
3. Satan Settled in Egypt
It was said that Satan was brought down in Aylah land in Syria or in the land of Basra in Iraq, then he moved to Egypt, where he settled down and proliferated there.
When Satan came down to Earth, he took the bathrooms as his abode, the markets were his councils. Every food unnamed in Allah was his food. His drinks were wine and intoxication, his writings were tattoos, and his messengers were shamans.
The Story of Adam’s Descend to Earth
Allah, the Almighty, created Adam to be His successor on Earth. He created him from dust, a handful of all kinds of earth dust. Allah ordered the angels to bow down to His new creature. Satan was among the angels when they received Allah’s command.
All the angels bowed down, except for Satan, who was egotistical and proud of himself. He felt arrogant to bow down to Adam. Finally, Satan was cursed and expelled from heaven because he did not respond to Allah’s command.
Allah created Eve from Adam’s left rib to make him get along with her emotionally, spiritually and physically. He ordered Adam and his spouse to dwell in paradise. Then, Allah’s first commission for Adam and Eve was the task of not eating from a particular tree in paradise.
Adam and his spouse did what Allah had ordered them until Satan appeared. He was not content to see Adam superior to him. He had envy and became spiteful of Adam. He continued to seduce Adam and Eve until they ate from the tree so Allah expelled Adam and his spouse from Paradise.
Conclusion
Neither the Holy Quran nor the Prophetic Sunnah mentioned the exact location where Adam landed. However, there are some sayings and speculations about this subject.
It should be noted that knowing the place where Adam and Eve landed is not an important topic from the Islamic perspective as it will add nothing to the Muslims’ faith or beliefs.
