The Quran teaches that Jesus is a Muslim, as Islam was the message sent to all prophets. Muslims

The Quran teaches that Jesus is a Muslim. From Adam to Muhammad, Islam was sent to mankind till it was completed and refined in the final divine message sent to the seal of all Prophets who is the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). Thus, Muslims believe in all Prophets and Messengers sent by Allah with no distinction and believe in all the Divine Scriptures.

“The Messenger ˹firmly˺ believes in what has been revealed to him from his Lord, and so do the believers. They ˹all˺ believe in Allah, His angels, His Books, and His messengers. ˹They proclaim,˺ “We make no distinction between any of His messengers.” And they say, “We hear and obey. ˹We seek˺ Your forgiveness, our Lord! And to You ˹alone˺ is the final return.”

[The Noble Quran, 2:285]

By reflecting on the Quranic Ayahs, we will answer the following questions: Does the Quran teach that Jesus is a Muslim and why does the Quran teach that Jesus is a Muslim?

Does The Quran Teach that Jesus is a Muslim?

We can deduce from the Quran that Jesus is a Muslim, as Islam is the universal message of all Prophets. Jesus is a Prophet sent by Allah Almighty to the Jews only. He was not sent with a new set of rulings, but he followed the previous Islamic laws of the Prophet Moses (peace be upon them).

“6 And recall when Jesus, son of Mary, said, “O Children of Israel, I am Allah’s Messenger to you, confirming what preceded me of the Torah and a bearer of glad tidings of a messenger who comes after me, whose name is Ahmad.” Yet when he came to them with evident proofs, they said, “This is evident sorcery .”7 And who is more unjust than one who fabricated lies against Allah when he was being invited to Islam? Thus Allah does not guide the unjust people.”

[The Noble Quran, 61: 6-7]

“And in their footsteps We sent Jesus, son of Mary, confirming what preceded him of the Torah. And We brought him the Gospel, wherein is guidance and light, and confirming the Torah that preceded him, and a guidance and an admonition to the ones who are mindful (of God).”

[The Noble Quran, 5: 46]

Why does the Quran Teach that Jesus is a Muslim?

Islam is the message of all Prophets and messengers (peace be upon them all). All of them were sent to spread the Oneness of Allah and submission to Him. For every nation, Allah Almighty has sent Messengers and Prophets to guide them to the right path and remind them of the true religion. Each Prophet came with different rulings and laws (Shariah), yet they all were sent with the same creed (‘Aqedah).

“Messengers—bearing glad tidings and forewarning, that mankind may have no excuse before Allah after the (coming of the) messengers, for Allah has always been Almighty, All-Wise.”

[The Noble Quran, 4:165]

Say, ˹O Prophet Muhammad, ˺ “We believe in Allah and what has been revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and his descendants; and what was given to Moses, Jesus, and other prophets from their Lord—we make no distinction between any of them, and to Him, we ˹fully˺ submit.”

[The Noble Quran, 3:84]
