God sent to us many prophets but there are only twenty-five of them who were mentioned in the holy Qur’an. In this article, we will learn who are the prophets and what is their message? We will also know whether the Qur’an acknowledges Abraham, Moses and Jesus as prophets or not and if they are prophets, what are the verses in the Qur’an that shows that?
Does the Quran acknowledge Abraham, Moses and Jesus as Prophets?
The answer to this question is “Yes”, the Qur’an acknowledges Abraham, Moses and Jesus as prophets. When we read the Qur’an, we find much evidence proving that they are great prophets. Let’s mention some of it:
1. The Quran explicitly refers to Abraham, Moses, and Jesus as Prophets
We find in the Qur’an explicit verses that prove that Abraham, Moses and Jesus are prophets of God.
Prophethood of Abraham in the Quran:
God states prophethood of Abraham in the Qur’an (which means):
“And mention in the Book [the story of] Abraham. Indeed, he was a man of truth and a prophet.”
Moses is a Prophet in the Quran
Prophet Moses is highlighted many times in the Quran as a Prophet. For example, God says in the Qur’an (which means):
“And mention in the Book, Moses. Indeed, he was chosen, and he was a messenger and a prophet.”

Jesus is a Prophet in the Quran
Almighty God states prophethood of Jesus negating divinity from him, saying (which means):
“….The Messiah, Jesus the son of Mary, was but a messenger of Allāh….”

2. Abraham, Moses & Jesus are from the five most resolute Prophets (Ulul-‘Azm)
The Holy Qur’an singled out five prophets from among all the other prophets and considered them the five most resolute prophets: Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad, peace be upon them all.
Almighty God says in the Qur’an (which means):
“He has ordained for you of religion what He enjoined upon Noah and that which We have revealed to you, [O Muḥammad], and what We enjoined upon Abraham and Moses and Jesus – to establish the religion and not be divided therein. Difficult for those who associate others with Allāh is that to which you invite them. Allāh chooses for Himself whom He wills and guides to Himself whoever turns back [to Him].”
( Qur’an 42:13 )
3. The Quran highlights divine reception of revelation for Abraham, Moses & Jesus
Abraham, Moses, and Jesus received revelation from God, which proves that they are prophets as mentioned before.
The Qur’an says that Abraham and Moses were two of the prophets to whom a scripture was revealed:
God says in the Qur’an (which means):
“Indeed, this is in the former scriptures.The scriptures of Abraham and Moses.”
Also, the Quran explicitly states that Jesus received a divine revelation called the Injil (Gospel), describing it as a book of guidance and light:
God says in the Qur’an (which means):
“And We sent, following in their footsteps, Jesus, the son of Mary, confirming that which came before him in the Torah; and We gave him the Gospel, in which was guidance and light and confirming that which preceded it of the Torah as guidance and instruction for the righteous.”
4. God supported Abraham, Moses & Jesus with miracles to prove their message
Abraham, Moses, and Jesus were supported by miracles from God to prove their message, these miracles as was mentioned before, show that they are prophets.
Miracles of Abraham in the Quran:
The Quran highlighted many miracles for Prophet Abraham supporting his prophethood. For example:
- Salvation from the fire: God says in the Qur’an (which means): “They said, “Burn him and support your gods – if you are to act. We [i.e., Allāh] said, “O fire, be coolness and safety upon Abraham.”” (Qur’an 21:68-69)
- The birds’ revival: God says also in the Qur’an (which means): “And [mention] when Abraham said, “My Lord, show me how You give life to the dead.” [Allāh] said, “Have you not believed?” He said, “Yes, but [I ask] only that my heart may be satisfied.” [Allāh] said, “Take four birds and commit them to yourself. Then [after slaughtering them] put on each hill a portion of them; then call them – they will come [flying] to you in haste. And know that Allāh is Exalted in Might and Wise.”” (Qur’an 2:260)
- Sacrificing his son Ismael: God says in the Qur’an (which means): “And when he reached with him [the age of] exertion, he said, “O my son, indeed I have seen in a dream that I [must] sacrifice you, so see what you think.” He said, “O my father, do as you are commanded. You will find me, if Allāh wills, of the steadfast. And when they had both submitted and he put him down upon his forehead, We called to him, “O Abraham, You have fulfilled the vision.” Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good. Indeed, this was the clear trial. And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice.” (Qur’an 37:102-107)
Miracles of Moses in the Quran
The Quran mentions many miracles for Prophet Moses granted by Almighty God to support Moses prophethood:
- Turning the staff into a serpent: God says in the Qur’an (which means): “So he [i.e., Moses] threw his staff, and suddenly it was a serpent, manifest.”(Qur’an 7:107)
- The Shining Hand: God says in the Qur’an (which means): “And he drew out his hand; thereupon it was white [with radiance] for the observers.”(Qur’an 7:108)
- Parting the sea: God says also in the Qur’an (which means): “Then We inspired to Moses, “Strike with your staff the sea,” and it parted, and each portion was like a great towering mountain.”(Qur’an 26:63)
Miracles of Jesus in the Quran
Almighty God supported Prophet Jesus with many miracles as preparation or part of his truthful call for God Oneness:
- Jesus miraculous birth: God says in the Qur’an (which means): “She said, “My Lord, how will I have a child when no man has touched me?” [The angel] said, “Such is Allāh; He creates what He wills. When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, ‘Be,’ and it is.” (Qur’an 3:47)
- Miracles of Creating, Healing, and Raising the Dead: God says also in the Qur’an (which means): “And [make him] a messenger to the Children of Israel, [who will say], ‘Indeed I have come to you with a sign from your Lord in that I design for you from clay [that which is] like the form of a bird, then I breathe into it and it becomes a bird by permission of Allāh. And I cure the blind [from birth] and the leper, and I give life to the dead – by permission of Allāh. And I inform you of what you eat and what you store in your houses. Indeed in that is a sign for you, if you are believers.” (Qur’an 3:49)
