1. Prophet Muhammad Is The Ideal Husband In Islam
Prophet Muhammad PBUH is once asked: What is the right of the wife of one of us upon her husband?”
He replied,
- “That you should give her food when you eat,
- and clothe her when you clothe yourself,
- and do not strike her on the face
- and do not revile her.” [Abu Dawud]
Also, a Muslim husband is encouraged to help his wife and participate in the household chores. Why not and our beloved Prophet ﷺ set a great example of that?
2. Prophet Muhammad PBUH Participates in the household Chores
The prophet (saw) used to serve his household even after being the leader of the whole Arabia. It was narrated by the wife of Prophet Muhammad (saw) the following:
[Al Bukhari]
“He used to keep himself busy helping members of his family, and when it was the time for Salat (the prayer), he would get up for prayer.”
In another hadith, she said:
[Sahih Ibn Hebban]
He was a normal human being. He used to examine his clothes for lice, milk his sheep and serve himself.”
3. Prophet Muhammad PBUH Accepts His Wife Permissible Wishes
The Prophet (saw) used to be gentle to his wives and give them whatever permissible they wish. One of his companions narrated:
Sahih Muslim
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was a person of gentle disposition, so when she (A’Isha) wished for a thing, he accepted it (provided it did not contravene the teachings of Islam).
4. Prophet Muhammad Cares About His Wives Even during Menstruation Time:
Here are a group of situations highlighting some aspects of love life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
During the menstruation time, he treated his wife Aisha in a romantic way. She describes his way saying:
[Sahih Sunan an-Nasa’i ]
When I was menstruating, then I would hand it to the Prophet (ﷺ), and he would put his mouth where mine had been and drink. And I would nibble at a bone on which some bits of meat were left when I was menstruating, then I would give it to the Prophet (ﷺ) and he would put his mouth where my mouth had been.”
5. Prophet Muhammad PBUH Explicitly Express His love for His Wife:
The prophet (saw) used to confess the love he has towards his wives even among other people.
Once our Messenger of Allah ( PBUH) was once asked by a man ,” which person you love most ?” He answered ,” Aa’ishah. “
He never felt ashamed of saying it in public to teach and guide us to express our love to our partners ( the husband and his wife ).
6. Prophet Muhammad PBUH used to do fun activities with His Wifes
The prophet (saw) used to do fun activities with his wives according to her/their wishes.
For example; in one of Prophet Muhammad’s travels, he made a racing competition with his wife Aisha to please her.
7. Prophet Muhammad PBUH Understands His Wife Jealousy:
In many cases the prophet (saw) appreciates his wives jealous activities and deals rationally with them without hurting their feelings or wasting the rights of others.
It was narrated:
While the Prophet (ﷺ) was in the house of one of his wives, one of the mothers of the believers sent a meal in a dish. The wife at whose house the Prophet (ﷺ) was, struck the hand of the servant, causing the dish to fall and break.
Sahih al-Bukhari
The Prophet (ﷺ) gathered the broken pieces of the dish and then started collecting on them the food which had been in the dish and said, “Your mother (my wife) felt jealous.”
Then he detained the servant till a (sound) dish was brought from the wife at whose house he was. He gave the sound dish to the wife whose dish had been broken and kept the broken one at the house where it had been broken.

[Sahih Muslim]
He [the Prophet] would come at night and offer greetings in such a manner as did not disturb those asleep and was heard only by those who were awake.
9. Prophet Muhammad Unexpected End!
Finally, we expect that at the moment the Prophet ﷺ died, he was praying or calling for Islam. However, Allah chose an unexpected end for him:
[Sahih Al-Bukhari]
Aisha said, “The Prophet (ﷺ) died in my house on the day of my turn while he was leaning on my chest closer to my neck, and Allah made my saliva mix with his Saliva.” `Aisha added, “`AbdurRahman came with a Siwak and the Prophet (ﷺ) was too weak to use it so I took it, chewed it and then (gave it to him and he) cleaned his teeth with it.”
